Ekela, Mariachis Too Much for Thunder
|
Nuevo Mexico left fielder Make-Make Ekela had 3 ribbies while helping his team defeat the St. Petersburg Thunder, 8-1. Jeff McFarland, who went 6 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 4 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 2-0. Ramón Guzmán sewed up the save, his 1st.
The game turned with two out in the bottom of the fourth when Ekela hit a run-scoring single. It propelled the Mariachis into the lead, 2-1.
"We did more than enough to get the win," said Ekela.
The 8th-place Thunder have lost 4 straight games.
