Thunder Hawks Stay Hot, Beat Pierogis, 8-4
|
The timely hitting of Dermott Mann helped the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks down the Squirrel Hill Pierogis, 8-4. Mann went 2-5 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Thunder Hawks. Basem Al-Saodi earned the win for Ft. Polk South. He lasted 5.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 2. With the win, he raised his record to 3-0. The Thunder Hawks, now 12-2, have had a terrific start to the season.
With Ft. Polk South leading 2-0 in the top of the third, Mann came up to bat against Squirrel Hill pitcher Diego Guerrero. Mann hit a fastball to left for a grand slam home run. His 6th home run of the season put the Thunder Hawks on top, 6-0.
"I believe in our guys," said Ft. Polk South skipper John Anderson. "I like the energy they're playing with."
