Peña Excels, But Screaming Eagles Win
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles weathered a fine game by Nuevo Mexico left fielder Manuel Peña to upend the Mariachis, 13-9, at Mariachi Band Shell. Peña went 2-2 with 2 doubles and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 4. The winner was Luis Silva in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Sekien Saromi took the loss. The Screaming Eagles, now 10-3, have been playing some good baseball.

Mercer Island used the timely hitting of Matabei Maeda to capture the win. The second baseman socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Screaming Eagles ahead, 9-8. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"I'm just happy to help the team win," Maeda told the Mercer Island Chronicle.
