The Providence Pilgrims overcame a good performance by Ft. Polk South catcher Dermott Mann to knock off Ft. Polk South, 4-3, at Thunder Hawks Ballpark. Mann was 2-4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Rodger Hunter was the winning pitcher. Over 5.2 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, with 6 walks and 5 strikeouts. Bernard Hewer got the save, the 3rd for him this season.
A key moment came in the top of the fifth inning when Pilgrims shortstop Robbie McClellan socked a 1-2 sinker to left for a run-scoring single, putting Providence up, 4-3.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," McClellan said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The win moves Providence to a record of 3-6.
