Turbeaus Nip Nationals, 3-2
|
The Gulf Coast Turbeaus had to overcome a fine effort from Ottawa pitcher Anthony Dixon to grab a narrow 3-2 win at Nationals Park. Dixon went 8.2 innings and allowed 3 runs. Mang Zhong picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 5-3. Anthony Dixon was tagged with the loss. Luis Valdés picked up the save for Gulf Coast, his 19th of the year.
Gulf Coast needed the clutch hitting of Darrell MacGregor to notch the win. The center fielder hammered a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Turbeaus on top, 3-2. For the game, MacGregor had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Gulf Coast manager Pancho Vargas.
The Turbeaus go to 28-42 with the win.
