Nationals Down Guinea Pigs, 5-4
|
The Ottawa Nationals downed the Gwinnett Guinea Pigs, 5-4. The hitting star was first baseman Phil Morrow. Morrow was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Nationals. Ronald Reddaway got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on 4 hits in 3.2 innings. Ottawa is now 27-40, Gwinnett 41-26.
Morrow contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Ottawa in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 1-0, Morrow took a curveball from Greg Ayala and stroked the home run to left-center. His 10th home run of the season allowed the Nationals to leap in front, 2-1.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Gwinnett manager Tabor de Maria.
