Childs, Rails Beat Highlanders, 5-1
|
Richland first baseman James Childs contributed to his team's 5-1 win over the Asheville Highlanders. Childs, who is tied for 4th in the SAA in bases on balls with 34, went 3 for 4 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Rails. The winning pitcher was Ashley Blamey. He tossed 99 pitches over 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits. Jason Walker recorded the save, his 1st.
With Richland leading 1-0 in the top of the third, Childs hit a fastball from Micheal Smith for a 2-run home run. It was his 10th home run of the season and put the Rails ahead, 3-0.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Childs said.
The 8th-place Rails are now 27-35, the Highlanders 32-30.
