Nationals Pull Off Thrilling 7-6 Win in Extras
|
The Ottawa Nationals weathered a fine game by Virginia Beach second baseman Jessie Gibbs to upend the Whales, 7-6, at Nationals Park. Gibbs was 2 for 5 with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Ottawa reliever Santiago Proximo picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Bill Gould absorbed the loss. The last-place Nationals have a record of 23-33.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 3rd and two out in the bottom of the sixth inning. That's when third baseman Ed Dimock, who is tied for 7th in the SAA in stolen bases with 14, hit a run-scoring triple. The Nationals went on to win.
"This is a resilient bunch," said Ottawa manager Kelly Flint.
