Rails Suffer 3-1 Setback
|
The Tacoma Fur Traders beat the Richland Rails, 3-1, at Ballpark of Tacoma. Starting pitcher Vladsislas Meierhold was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Luke Fitzgerald collected save number 10. The Rails, now 21-26, have lost 4 straight.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Joe Gilmore came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Richland pitcher Vincent Higgins, he hit a 2-2 slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Tacoma on top, 2-1.
"Winning never gets dull," said Meierhold.
