Guinea Pigs Bridle Nationals, 3-1
|
In a tight game between the Gwinnett Guinea Pigs and the Ottawa Nationals, pitcher William Averett was terrific on the mound. The Gwinnett right-hander helped his team to the 3-1 win. The winning pitcher was Averett, now 3-0. He tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 7. Getting the save was Jim Nasium, his 10th.
The Guinea Pigs got a big hit from designated hitter José Moreno. In the bottom of the sixth, Moreno pounded a solo home run to left. His 11th home run of the season put the Guinea Pigs ahead, 3-1.
Averett told the Gwinnett Gazette: "Sometimes the big stage is not big enough for me."
Ottawa has now lost 4 in a row.
