Late Magic Gets Asheville 6-4 Win
|
Asheville picked up a win at Virginia Beach Grounds, bumping off the Virginia Beach Whales, 6-4. Pitcher Jesús Gordini was a major reason the Highlanders emerged victorious. Asheville pitcher Ryan Long got the win. He's now 1-0. Bill Gould was tagged with the loss. The save was credited to Kamiel Wabeke, his 10th.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Wendell Palmer came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Virginia Beach pitcher Bill Gould, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Asheville on top, 3-2.
"We're all about heart and hustle on this team. That's what wins ballgames," Palmer told the Asheville News.
With the win, Asheville upped its record to 20-12.
