Nationals Earn 3-2 Win Versus Turbeaus
|
The Ottawa Nationals had to overcome a fine effort from Gulf Coast pitcher Kevin Hamm to grab a narrow 3-2 win at Mobile Home Park. Hamm went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Horiuchi Tanaka picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Luis Valdés was tagged with the loss. The win makes Ottawa 13-17.
Ottawa used a clutch hit from Phil Morrow to snatch the win. The first baseman belted a solo home run in the top of the 12th inning to put the Nationals ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was huge.
"The game of baseball will test you," said Kelly Flint, the Ottawa skipper. "This one tested us."
