Marquette rode a good effort from starter Luwen Bastiaanse to beat the Ottawa Nationals at Marquette Stadium. The final score was 4-1. The loss drops the Nationals to 9-8.

Bastiaanse, who dominated for Marquette, earned the victory to move to 2-1. He was in control the whole game, scattering 3 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 7. Ottawa batters could never bunch up enough hits to produce a rally.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Bastiaanse said.
