Squirrel Monkeys Dump Coyotes, 7-5
|
The Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys weathered an outstanding game by Hamilton designated hitter Ed Mellor to topple the Coyotes, 7-5. Mellor went 2-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The winning pitcher was Felipe Arreola. He tossed 101 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits. Mamadou Boutin finished the game for Syracuse and earned his 2nd save.
In the bottom of the fifth, with Syracuse leading 4-1, Jerry Scott hit a fastball from Manu Jortikka for a 2-run single, giving the Squirrel Monkeys the lead, 6-1.
In postgame comments to the Syracuse Times, Scott said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Squirrel Monkeys improved to 23-19.
