The Asheville Highlanders downed the Marquette Miners, 9-8, at Asheville Park. José Portiz led the way, going 2-for-4 for Asheville. The winner in relief was Ramón Rodríguez. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 3.2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0.

The Highlanders relied on shortstop Fernando Castro for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the ninth, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single to seal the deal.
