Drummers Squelch Nobles Offense in Shutout Win
|
The Tortolita Drummers racked up a win at Jerome Grounds, bumping off the Bakersfield Nobles, 6-0. Scott Thompson, who started for Tortolita, pitched effectively for his team. Thompson, now 2-3, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 1, walking 2, and allowing no runs. Tortolita, with the win, sits at 14-27.
The Drummers benefited from an error in the top of the fifth inning. Tortolita was leading 1-0 when Yataro Nagai hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put Tortolita in front, 3-0.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Thompson said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
