Fog Come Up Short at Syracuse, 5-4
|
The Syracuse Starks beat the Sunset District Fog, 5-4, at Stark Stadium. The win was due in part to catcher Allan Selkirk, who went 2 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Syracuse reliever Isaac Patterson picked up the win to move to 3-2. Miguel Núñez suffered the loss. Mario Rosales earned the save for Syracuse, his 18th of the year.
Had Domingo Altamiraño not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Altamiraño hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Starks.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Sunset District manager Raymond Thomas. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
The Starks go to 27-40 with the win.
