The Vermont Lake Monsters had to overcome a fine effort from Austin pitcher Pat Pierce to grab a narrow 4-2 win at Mamba Park. Pierce went 7 innings and allowed no runs. Jesús Fregaso, now 3-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. Vermont is now riding a 3-game win streak.

It could have been a different outcome for Vermont, had it not been for Alex Joly, the 25-year old third baseman . Joly contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put Vermont up, 3-2.

"Like I've always said, I'm the straw that stirs the drink," Joly said (again).
