The 2045 season did not get off to quite the start the Syracuse Starks had hoped, with an opening day loss to the Vermont Lake Monsters at Stark Stadium. The final score was 4-3. Third Baseman Alex Joly was the top performer for Vermont. Vermont reliever Will Parker was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was David O'Farrell. Cristóbal López was credited with the save for Vermont, his 1st of the season.
Joly had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a full count fastball from Peace Addo, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Lake Monsters a 4-2 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Joly.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Syracuse manager John Wright, "let me know."
