Silva Shuts Out Monroeville
Tuesday, August 30th , 2044
Luis Silva of the South Beach Blaze was on top of his game today.

The 22-year-old tantalized the Monroeville Yinzers with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 2-0 shutout.

"He had the changeup working," Monroeville manager Ricardo Sánchez said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The South Beach hurler had 15 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 3 hits in his complete-game effort.

Silva told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

This season Silva has worked 62.2 innings with 87 strikeouts en route to a 8-1 record and a 2.30 ERA.
