Chiefs Blank Vandals, van der Kieft Wins Sunday, July 17th , 2044 The Caldwell Chiefs did little to support starter Juriaan van der Kieft against the Eugene Vandals, but it turned out he didn't need the help. The left-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Vandals, striking out 11 and surrendering 3 hits. The performance from van der Kieft allowed Caldwell to escape with the 1-0 win despite an anemic offense. "Nobody came to me and said 'Juriaan, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," van der Kieft told BNN reporters following the win.
