Ávila Super -- No-Hits Pontiac
Wednesday, August 31st , 2044
Miguel Ávila relied on excellent pitch selection and pinpoint control to hold Pontiac hitless in a 5-1 win at Ballpark of Yucca Valley today.
"Nobody goes out to pitch a no-hitter," he said later. "We just go out and try to get a win. A 10-9 win is better than a 1-0 loss. My pitching buddies might not be too happy giving up nine runs but a win is a win. The key to it today was I mixed my pitches well. I kept the Godfathers off balance and guessing the whole game."
The 23-year-old starter rung up 10 strikeouts and 1 walk in whipping the Godfathers.
"When a guy is throwing strikes the way he was and is locating well, it is going to be a long day for any club," Pontiac skipper Júlio Villegas said.
To date this year Ávila has won 5 and lost 1 with a 0.39 ERA, no saves and 64 strikeouts in no relief appearances.
