Abasto, Calhamar Suspended for Fracas Wednesday, August 17th , 2044 Yesterday at Pittsburgh Grounds Rafael Abasto and Valentin Calhamar got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Pittsburgh Kingfishers and St. Louis Coeur. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Abasto will have to sit out 3 while Calhamar would be given a 6-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. For the season Abasto is batting .226 with 47 hits and 10 home runs. He has scored 26 times and batted in 37. This season in 16 starts Valentin Calhamar has a record of 4-7 with 77 strikeouts in 88.1 innings and a 4.48 ERA. |
