Blimps Hammered by Wofford, Drop Game 3 to Whales
The Virginia Beach Whales moved to within one game of the Round 2 today, downing the Akron Blimps on the road at Goodyear Hanger Dome by a score of 6-3. Whales designated hitter Mark Wofford was named player of the game after he went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. The win gives the Whales a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 SL AA Championship.

The Whales took a 5-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Facing Akron hurler Javier Merlo with one out, Wofford hit a grand slam home run.

"Things broke our way today and that's great," Whales manager Bernie Drake said. "It's important, though, to stay focused and not pat yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."

Game 4 is set to be played tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Jorge González for Virginia Beach and Henry Terry for Akron.
