Akron Win Evens Series at 1
|
The Akron Blimps topped the Virginia Beach Whales by the score of 4-1 and moved into a 1-1 tie in the SL AA Championship today. The largest share of the credit went to player of the game and Akron starter Rob Butler, who threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball in the win.
The result might have been different for Akron, had it not been for Ray Winters. The shortstop produced a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Blimps ahead, 2-1. For the game, Winters had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," Butler said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."
The next game is scheduled for Thursday, September 24th, 2043 at Goodyear Hanger Dome. Slated to start are Mark Taylor for the Virginia Beach Whales and Henry Terry for the the Akron Blimps.
