The Baton Rouge Brass started the SL AAA Championship in style today, winning on the road against the Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys at The Zoo in Syracuse by a score of 11-7 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Brass designated hitter Stephen Goldobenko was named player of the game after he belted 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice.

The Brass took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Facing Syracuse hurler Luis Sastre with one out, Goldobenko hit a 3-run home run.

"We'll enjoy this win," said Goldobenko. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Rainer Polonius for the Baton Rouge Brass and Billy Craig for the the Syracuse Squirrel Monkeys.
