Humpbacks Clip Nobles 3-2 in R1 Contest
|
The Alaskan Humpbacks knotted up the PL AAA Championship at Jerome Grounds today, thanks in large part to starter Claudio Gonzáles. Gonzáles quieted the Bakersfield Nobles, enabling Alaskan to grab the 3-2 win and move into a 1-1 tie in the best-of-5 series.
Alaskan needed the clutch hitting of Christiaan Bunschoten to notch the win. The first baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Humpbacks on top, 3-2. For the game, Bunschoten had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Bakersfield manager José Gonzáles. "But we decided not to take it."
Game 3 is scheduled for Thursday at Sea World in Eugene. The scheduled starters for the game are Carlos Vargas for Bakersfield and Javier Montés for Alaskan.
