Hermit Crabs -- Eventually -- Claim Game 5 in 20-Inning Endurance Contest
|
The Huntington Hermit Crabs went the distance and then some at The Shell today to drag themselves back into a tie with the Kent Comets.
It took 20 innings to settle Game 4 of the SL A Championship, but Huntington eventually took a walk-off 4-3 win behind the efforts of reliever and player of the game Rémy Moreau. Moreau came in in relief and pitched to 24 batters to aid the Huntington cause. The clubs are now tied 2-2 in their best-of-5 series.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Joe Johnson came to bat in the bottom of the 20th. Facing Kent pitcher Saadat Eristov, he hit a full count cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Huntington on top, 4-3.
"I hate extra innings," Huntington manager Rafael Herrera said. "It makes everyone more tired, wears out the bullpen, wears out the fans. Even winning doesn't make me feel good about it."
Game 5 is scheduled for Monday. Slated to start are William Averett for Huntington and Janghyun Han for Kent.
