Billy Goats Score Late to Upend Knights, 3-2
|
The Billy Goats had to overcome a fine effort from Kingston Township pitcher Currito Fonseca to grab a narrow 3-2 win at Cloverdale Legion Park. Fonseca went 7.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. Ron Fernández, credited with the win, is now 3-1. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3.1 innings. The save went to Mamadou Boutin, his 2nd this season.
Colorado used the timely hitting of Ruhinda Kirkconnell to capture the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Billy Goats on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
Afterward, Billy Goats manager Mack Kilkeary was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
The Billy Goats improve their record to 27-22 with the win over Kingston Township.
