Harbor Whales Score Late to Upend Baby Lakers, 7-5
|
The Harbor Whales grabbed a win, 7-5, at Field of the Browns, overcoming a fine effort from Bompton pitcher Ronnie van Dam. van Dam went 5.2 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Greenport reliever Eduardo Pérez got the win, raising his record to 3-0. Javier Rúbio was tagged with the loss. Leonard Harmon, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 3rd save.
Greenport used the timely hitting of Andrew Rijerkerk to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Harbor Whales ahead, 7-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Harbor Whales manager Austin Brown. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
Greenport now sits in last place in the Menard's R at 20-44.
