Shockers Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Surprise Shockers beat the Bompton Baby Lakers, 3-2, at Shockers Field. Surprise catcher Al Miller earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 4-5 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk. Surprise reliever Milton Houston picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Gijsbert van den Hombergh took the loss. The 6th-place Shockers now have a win-loss record of 15-16.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Zed Umlaut came to bat in the bottom of the 11th. Facing Bompton pitcher Gijsbert van den Hombergh, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Surprise on top, 3-2.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Bompton skipper Pat Carrasco.
