Getting a good performance from third baseman Vic Coates, the Plattsburgh Puffer Fish defeated the Ellesmere Island Snowpeople, 4-2. Coates was 4 for 5 with 4 singles for the Puffer Fish. Patrick Saunders got the win, improving to 1-2. He worked 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 2. The loss drops Ellesmere Island to 2-9.
It could have been a different outcome for Plattsburgh, had it not been for Arhippa Rintala, the 20-year old catcher . Rintala contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to put Plattsburgh up, 3-2.
"We'll enjoy this win for now, but it's just one," Rintala told local reporters. "We've got to keep it going."
