Mockingbirds Stun Knights, 7-6

The Mississippi Mockingbirds beat the Kingston Township Knights, 7-6, at Magnolia Park. The win was largely due to the efforts of center fielder Vicente Romero, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The win was credited to Jeff Mahl in relief. His record improves to 3-2. David Blake took the loss. The 7th-place Mockingbirds are now 13-17, the Knights 11-19.
Romero had a game-changing single in the bottom of the eighth. On a 1-1 cutter from David Blake, he banged a run-scoring single to left, giving the Mockingbirds a 7-6 lead. It was the 29th hit of the year for Romero.
"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Romero, "but we got it done."
