Rhinos Topple Hounds with Late Rally

Hicksville got a terrific performance from pitcher Jimmy Young, but it wasn't enough to beat the Redwood Rhinos. Redwood won the Hound Pound contest, 2-1. Young was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 5 innings of 2-hit ball. Albert Davis earned the save for Redwood, his 2nd. Redwood is now 35-49, Hicksville 39-45.
Redwood used the timely hitting of Jorge Villarreal to capture the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rhinos on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Redwood manager Frank Bass.
