The Hudsonville Flanderses took Tulsa pitcher Jeff McFarland's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Ballpark of Hughesville. The final score had Hudsonville getting past the Otters, 2-1. McFarland went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 earned runs, striking out 8. Hudsonville reliever José Torres was the winner. His record is now 2-2. The losing pitcher was Jeff McFarland. Hisham Daud earned his 2nd save in 2 tries.
The outcome might have been different for Hudsonville, had it not been for Vonne Fajardo, the 21-year old shortstop . Fajardo stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put Hudsonville up, 2-0. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 1 double and 2 singles.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Fajardo said in reaction to the win.
The Flanderses saw their win-loss record go to 18-26. At the same time, the Otters fell to 22-22.
