Yamashita Strokes 5 Hits
|
5 hits in a game has always been a big milestone in baseball -- 5 hits in a game gets a player's name in the record book, win or lose. Michizane Yamashita got his name recorded today, but the Memphis Music picked up the win at Ducks Park, topping the Long Island Ducks, 4-3.
"He bushwhacked us," said winning manager Jim Thornton. "We were lucky to come out ahead."
Yamashita, who leads the PR in doubles with 7, spoke to reporters in the clubhouse following the game, saying his nerves only set in once he was on the cusp of the milestone.
"I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this could be a once-in-a-lifetime day," the right fielder said. "I think the coaches could tell I was going to be ready to swing at anything close. That's why my third base coach told me to calm down and wait for a good pitch. That got me back on track."
Michizane Yamashita singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, doubled in the 8th, doubled in the 10th, flied out in the 11th and struck out in the 13th.
Thus far this season Yamashita has hit .324 with no home runs, 9 RBIs and scored 5 times.
