The Eugene Vandals beat the Delmarva Gallos, 4-1, at The Cage. The win was largely due to the efforts of catcher Adrián Serrano, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Gyu-hyun Chong was the winner. Over 5 innings, he allowed 1 run on 4 hits, with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Tommy Moore closed the door for Eugene, picking up his 5th save of the year.
It could have been a different outcome for Eugene, had it not been for Roy MacDonald, the 20-year old center fielder . MacDonald contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning to put Eugene up, 3-1.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Serrano said.
The Gallos, now 4-13, continue their sluggish start.
