Hermit Crabs Beat Hawks, 6-1
|
The Huntington Hermit Crabs went home winners at Hawks Field, thanks in large part to starter Steve Baker. Baker silenced the Laredo Hawks, enabling Huntington to grab the 6-1 win. Baker, now 10-3, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 9, walking 2, and allowing no earned runs. At 52-38, the Hermit Crabs find themselves in third place in the Silver A.
Tied up with the Hawks in the top of the fourth inning, the Hermit Crabs got a boost from first baseman Brian Thomas. With a runner on 2nd, Thomas saw a 2-1 sinker from Mike Wilson and hit a run-scoring double to break the stalemate and put Huntington on top, 1-0.
"I had a good game plan," said Baker. "I made my pitches." His manager concurred. "It was all there," Rafael Herrera said, "the velocity, the sharpness of his pitches."
