Tight Tilt Goes to Generals, 3-2
|
Washington starter Miguel Pérez pitched effectively against the Smoky Mountain Hobeaus at Washington Park. The right-hander led his team to a 3-2 win. Pérez picked up the win for Washington, going 6.1 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 2-2. Wally Moon recorded the save for Washington, his 1st of the season.
The Hobeaus had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Generals going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old shortstop Javier García came to the plate. García hit a 2-run triple on a first pitch changeup from Smoky Mountain hurler Nicolas Cernin. It was García's 2nd triple of the year.
"Miguel is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Washington manager John Hill.
Washington, now 6-13, is off to a slow start.
