River Rats Win at Pontiac, 2-1
|
The Columbia River Rats got a magnificent performance from pitcher Micheal Smith, who muffled the Pontiac offense en route to a tight 2-1 River Rats win at Pontiac Copperdome. Smith got the win, improving to 3-3. He allowed 5 hits and walked 0 over 6 innings. Smith allowed 1 earned run. Tom Young finished the game for Columbia and earned his 25th save.
Columbia used the timely hitting of Jim Abare to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the River Rats ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Columbia manager Allen Davis said.
The 5th-place River Rats are now 52-44, the Godfathers 34-62.
