Getting a good performance from designated hitter António Hierro, the St. Petersburg Thunder defeated the Ithaca Fighting Imps, 3-2. Hierro went 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Thunder. Charlie Bottari sewed up the save, his 5th. The Thunder now own a record of 38-23.
Hierro contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for St. Petersburg in the top of the third. With his team trailing 2-0, Hierro took a fastball from Hank Garrett and stroked the home run to left-center. His 11th home run of the season allowed the Thunder to leap in front, 3-2.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Ithaca manager Gary Thomas.
