Victory Pushes Airmen Record to 24-16
|
The Alameda Airmen beat the Columbia River Rats, 7-4, at Columbia Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of right fielder John Reed, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Mercedes Bvan got the win, improving to 3-2. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 0. William Stevens locked down his 6th save.
It could have been a different outcome for Alameda, had it not been for Yosuke Konishi, the slick-fielding shortstop . Konishi contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Alameda up, 4-2.
"Getting the win feels nice," said Konishi. "More importantly, I had a good game."
Alameda is now 24-16, while Columbia is 28-12.
