Screaming Eagles Keep Streak Alive With 2-1 Win
|
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles picked up a win at The Ogre Den, knocking off the Olympia Ogres, 2-1. On the mound for Mercer Island was right-hander Jeremiah Hartney, who played a pivotal role in the win. Hartney, now 1-0, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. The winning streak has now reached 10 games for the Screaming Eagles.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Jordan Hanley came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Olympia pitcher Tommy Moore, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Mercer Island on top, 2-1.
Afterward, Screaming Eagles manager Jesús Román was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
