Tight Tilt Goes to Chukars, 3-2
|
The Yucca Valley Yellows got a superb performance from pitcher Steve Walden. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Idaho Falls. The Chukars won the game, 3-2. In spite of the loss, Walden was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings allowing 3 runs. Idaho Falls reliever Vincent Higgins was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Steve Walden took the loss for Yucca Valley. The 9th-place Chukars now have a win-loss record of 10-22.
The Chukars got a lift from right fielder Taroemon Nishii who had a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning off Steve Walden. It was his 10th RBI of the season and put Idaho Falls in front, 2-1.
Afterward, Chukars manager Sherwood Baker was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
