The Yucca Valley Yellows eked out a 5-4 win versus the Pontiac Godfathers at Pontiac Copperdome. Nobody did more than pitcher Ryan Riley, who captured player of the game honors. Pontiac, at 3-14, has had a dismal start to the season.
The result might have been different for Yucca Valley, had it not been for Dave Reynolds, the slick-fielding center fielder . Reynolds stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put Yucca Valley up, 5-4. For the game, he had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Riley. "Successful pitchers do it."
