Guinea Pigs Raise Rally Flag, Beat Ottawa, 7-6
|
The Ottawa Nationals got a sterling performance from left fielder Greg Rogers, but the Guinea Pigs still prevailed, 7-6. Rogers was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He went 1-3 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Gwinnett reliever Carlos Carrillo picked up the win, upping his record to 4-2. Rusty Davis took the loss. The 6th-place Guinea Pigs have won 5 in a row.
Gwinnett needed the clutch hitting of Luis Concepción to notch the win. The designated hitter hammered a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Guinea Pigs on top, 7-6. For the game, Concepción had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Nothing is scripted in this game," said Concepción.
