The Squirrel Hill Pierogis got a superb performance from pitcher Gustaf Steur, but the Virginia Beach Whales still won the game, 2-1. Steur was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 5 innings allowing 2 runs. The win was Remco Mansvelt's in relief. His record improves to 5-1. Gustaf Steur took the loss for Squirrel Hill. Virginia Beach has now won 4 in a row.
The Whales got a lift from right fielder Neung-uk Yi who had a run-scoring ground out in the bottom of the third inning off Gustaf Steur. It was his 49th RBI of the season and put Virginia Beach in front, 2-1.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Squirrel Hill skipper Randy Stevens.
