Nationals Score Late to Upend Pierogis, 4-0
|
Squirrel Hill got a terrific performance from pitcher Jesús Bruno, but it wasn't enough to beat the Ottawa Nationals. Ottawa won the Nationals Park contest, 4-0. Bruno was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings of shutout ball. Ottawa reliever Tony Cowan picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. Jerry Reid shouldered the loss. The second-place Nationals lifted their record to 42-33.
Hulama Yani tagged a home run off Jerry Reid in the bottom of the eighth. His 3-run blast put the Nationals on top, 3-0. In all, Yani had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"I thought we played a nice game," Yani told the Ottawa Today. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
