The Akron Blimps topped the Gwinnett Guinea Pigs, 3-2, in USSL Double A action at Goodyear Hanger Dome. The player of the game was Akron pitcher Lance Mascola. Mascola, now 12-2, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 2, walking 1, and allowing 2 earned runs. Jorge Pagán, credited with the save, is now 2 for 4 in save opportunities.
Akron center fielder Alohinani Puanani contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a changeup into left field for a 3-run home run. It was his 14th home run of the season and put the Blimps ahead, 3-0.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Akron manager Jared Gilbert.
Akron has now won 4 straight.
