The Virginia Beach Whales got a sterling performance from pitcher Jack Elvidge, but the Pierogis still prevailed, 5-4. Elvidge was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He came in in relief and pitched to 17 batters . The Pierogis sit in last place in the Silver AA with a record of 24-37.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Squirrel Hill pinch hitter Christian Bray, facing Eliseo Fontirroig, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Pierogis the 5-4 win.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Bray. "And not try to do too much."
